Help Poor Couples Fulfil the Sunnah of Nikah

In Islam, marriage (Nikah) is not just a social contract; it’s a sacred act and a Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). However, many poor Muslim couples face significant challenges in fulfilling this blessed tradition due to financial constraints. The inability to afford the basic necessities of a wedding often leads to prolonged periods of hardship and loneliness, preventing them from experiencing the blessings of companionship and stability. This struggle is particularly acute in communities grappling with poverty, where even modest celebrations can be out of reach.

The “Sponsor a Nikah” project aims to bridge this gap by helping deserving couples achieve their dream of a dignified and joyous marriage. By sponsoring a Nikah, you are not only fulfilling a vital aspect of Islamic charity but also providing a foundation for a stable and blessed family life. Your support ensures that these couples can start their lives together on a strong and hopeful note, free from the financial burdens that would otherwise hinder their happiness.

Join us in this noble cause and help poor couples fulfil the Sunnah of Nikah. By sponsoring a Nikah, you are not only helping individuals but also strengthening the fabric of the Muslim community, promoting the values of compassion, support, and unity.

Evidence from the Quran and Sunnah on the Importance of Nikah

Quran

Surah An-Nur (24:32): “And marry those among you who are single and the righteous among your male slaves and female slaves. If they should be poor, Allah will enrich them from His bounty, and Allah is All-Encompassing and Knowing.”

This ayah highlights the encouragement to marry, assuring that Allah will provide for those who marry, even if they are poor. It emphasises that financial concerns should not be a barrier to fulfilling the institution of marriage.

Surah Ar-Rum (30:21):“And among His Signs is this, that He created for you mates from among yourselves, that you may find tranquillity in them, and He has put between you affection and mercy. Verily in that are indeed signs for a people who reflect.”

This ayah underlines the purpose of marriage in Islam, which is to provide tranquillity, love, and mercy between spouses. It signifies marriage as a divine arrangement to create harmony and support among individuals.

Hadith

Surah Ar-Rum (30:21): “And among His Signs is this, that He created for you mates from among yourselves, that you may find tranquillity in them, and He has put between you affection and mercy. Verily in that are indeed signs for a people who reflect.”

This hadith emphasises the protective and beneficial nature of marriage, urging those who are able to marry to do so as a means to safeguard their chastity and modesty.

Surah Ar-Rum (30:21): “And among His Signs is this, that He created for you mates from among yourselves, that you may find tranquillity in them, and He has put between you affection and mercy. Verily in that are indeed signs for a people who reflect.”

This hadith highlights marriage as an essential practice in Islam, following the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). It underscores the communal and spiritual importance of marriage in building a strong, pious, and supportive community.

Nikah: A Shield Against Sin and Disobedience

Nikah (Islamic marriage), plays a crucial role in protecting both individuals and society from sinning and disobedience in several ways:

Protection for Individuals

Guarding Modesty and Chastity

Nikah provides a lawful and moral means for fulfilling natural desires. In Islam, extramarital relationships are forbidden, and marriage offers a legitimate way to express love and companionship. This helps individuals maintain their chastity and avoid falling into sinful behaviours such as fornication or adultery.

Spiritual and Emotional Stability

Marriage fosters a stable and supportive environment where both partners can grow spiritually and emotionally. The partnership in marriage encourages mutual respect, understanding, and compassion, which strengthens faith and moral values. This supportive bond helps individuals resist temptations and negative influences.

Accountability and Responsibility

Being married brings a sense of responsibility and accountability. Spouses are responsible for each other’s well-being and are encouraged to help each other stay on the right path. This shared responsibility discourages sinful behaviour and encourages acts of kindness, patience, and forgiveness.

Protection for Society

Strengthening Family Units

A stable family unit, founded on the principles of Nikah, is considered the cornerstone of a healthy society in Islam. Families provide the necessary structure for raising children with strong moral and ethical values. This foundation helps prevent social issues such as juvenile delinquency and moral decay.

Reducing Social Ills

By providing a structured and lawful way to establish intimate relationships, marriage reduces the occurrence of social ills like illegitimate relationships, substance abuse, and the spread of sexually transmitted diseases. It also mitigates the negative effects associated with broken families and single parenthood.

Promoting Social Harmony

Marriage encourages mutual support and cooperation, not just within the family but also within the broader community. It fosters a sense of belonging and connectedness, reducing feelings of isolation and loneliness that can lead to antisocial behaviour.

Legal and Social Order

Nikah provides a clear legal and social framework for relationships, which helps maintain order and justice in society. It ensures that rights and responsibilities are clearly defined, protecting the interests of all parties involved, including children.

In summary, Nikah is a protective institution in Islam that helps prevent sin and disobedience by providing a lawful outlet for natural desires, promoting responsibility and accountability, and fostering a supportive and moral environment both for individuals and society at large. Sponsor a Nikah and sow the seeds of goodness and obedience.
