What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid does not cost you a penny more, but can add an additional 25p to every £1 you donate. When HCR receives a donation from a UK taxpayer, we are entitled to claim an amount of tax (calculated at the basic rate of income tax in that year) paid on that donation. Once you have given your permission for us to do this on your behalf, you do not have to do anything else.

All that is required is that you must be a taxpayer that would have paid or will pay sufficient Income and/or Capital Gains Tax to cover all the Gift Aid claimed on all your donations in that tax year. Please note that it is your responsibility to pay any difference.

The amount of tax claimed will be 25% of the total value of your donations in that tax year. Furthermore, if you are a higher taxpayer, you are also entitled to claim the difference between the basic rate which we will claim and the amount of tax you have actually paid. For further details on how you can do this, please contact your tax office. If your tax situation changes and your gifts will no longer be eligible for the Gift Aid scheme please contact us and we will amend your record accordingly.

From the comfort of our homes, it’s easy to overlook the struggles that many within our own community face daily. Yet, the reality is that thousands of Muslims in the UK endure poverty, unemployment, or the challenges of being refugees in a foreign land. Through our Zakat for Muslims in the UK initiative, we’ve been able to extend a helping hand to those in need, offering support and hope in times of hardship. By coming together, we can make a profound difference in the lives of our brothers and sisters, ensuring that no one is left behind.

How does this Initiative Work?

Through this initiative, we only assist families who are connected with their local masjid.

A person or family in need should get in touch with their local masjid’s imam.

2.

The imam then recommends the person or family to HCR.

3.

HCR carries out its own internal investigation and assesses the requirements.

4.

Once satisfied, funds are transferred via bank.

Note: We do not accept any direct approaches or online requests. If you’re seeking assistance through the Zakat for Muslims in the UK initiative, please get in touch with your local imam and ask them to recommend your case to HCR with an official Masjid letterhead or email.
